After conducting a competitive analysis of other home energy products, we found three major value propositions: COST SAVINGS, SOCIAL COMPARISON, ECO-CONSCIOUS.

We interviewed users of solar panels and home thermostat systems to find common pain points and needs. From competitive analysis and user interviews, we were able to establish four main motivators:

We decided on two different types of energy usage visualizations for the user to understand both their long term and at the moment energy impact. We made sure the visual language was simple and clear for comprehension and ease of navigation. This style also ensured the interface was easily scalable for mobile and that data could still be easily read by the user.
